Emancipation "Behind the metropolis" (Hinter der Weltstadt).

Portrait Adolf Brand An exhibition about Adolf Brand and the "Gemeinschaft der Eigenen" From 07/10 to 17/11/2000 in the "Zeit-Galerie" Friedrichshagen, Scharnweberstr. 59 in 12587 Berlin

With financial support by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft literarischer Gesellschaften und Gedenkstätten, the Kulturamt (office for culture) Köpenick and the University Siegen.

The Kulturhistorische Verein Friedrichshagen shows on 120 sqm from October 7th to November 17th 2000 in Friedrichshagen an exhibition about Adolf Brand, his publishing house, his magazine "Der Eigene" and their staff and readers.

The beginning of the emancipation of love between men and the fight against §175 (the beginning of what is today called the gay movement) lie back about 100 years. That these beginnings were not only at home in the metropolis Berlin but also "Behind the metropolis", namely in Friedrichshagn's neighbouring Wilhelmshagen, shall be documented here.

There is published a catalogue as well as a band with poems from Der Eigene (in the series edition friedrichshagen).

The exhibition is opened on October 7th at 11 a.m. by Dr. Marita Keilson-Lauritz (Bussum, NL) with an introduction to Brand and his activities and actions. In a following public symposium (at the given place) aspects linking the history and present of the topic "Emancipation and literature" are explained and set for discussion.

The symposium will be continued on October 8th 2000 in the "Museum of the German Lifereform movement" ("Museum der deutschen Lebensreformbewegung") in Woltersdorf (Fidushouse). More information at: "Museum der deutschen Lebensreformbewegung" Woltersdorf (Fidushouse)
